Dr. Capan earned her degree as Doctor of Dental Medicine(DMD) from the Harvard School of Dental Medicine. She graduated with honors and was awarded the prestigious Leo Talkov Award as well as the American College of Dentists Award for outstanding performance and professionalism. She was also granted the American Association of Women Dentists Award as well as the American Association of Orthodontists Award upon her graduation.

She completed her residency at the Columbia University School of Dental and Oral Surgery, Division of Orthodontics in New York City. She attended the University of Pennsylvania, Wharton School for her undergraduate Bachelor of Science degree, where she graduated Cum Laude.

To further her commitment to education, Dr. Capan is a clinical instructor of Orthodontics at Columbia, where she lectures actively on several innovative orthodontic techniques. As she is dedicated to her specialty, she believes in always furthering her own education in the latest techniques in orthodontics such as implant-assisted movement of teeth as well as cosmetic alternatives to braces such as Invisalign.

As a researcher in her field, Dr. Capan has investigated markers for natural archform in an effort to provide orthodontic results that are stable and functional. She has also researched adhesives, which offer greater bond strengths to allow for less broken brackets during the course of orthodontic treatment.

Dr. Capan is currently a member of several prestigious organizations such as the American Association of Orthodontists, the Middle Atlantic Association of Orthodontists, the American Dental Association, the New Jersey Dental Association and the Bergen County Dental Association. She is also a member of the American Association of Women Dentists and the World Federation of Orthodontists.

Dr. Capan was raised in Norwood, New Jersey and resides there with her husband, Gregory, and her children, Shant and Garo.
